Georgia airport hangar project draws reservations within a week

A privately built hangar development at Atlanta Regional Airport–Falcon Field in Peachtree City, Georgia, drew verbal reservations for its entire first phase within about a week of going on the market, airport director Hope Macaluso said.

Marketing began Aug. 25 on land owned by the airport. Macaluso told The Citizen that a reservation is not a signed contract with payment received, and that securing those agreements comes next. Formal reservation paperwork is being completed, and buyers will have to put down refundable deposits to hold a unit.

The first phase has 33 units, split between T-hangars and box hangars. T-hangar prices run as high as $222,074; box hangars go up to $359,500. Purchasers would own the structures and hold a 40-year lease on the airport land beneath them.

A second phase of about 33 to 35 more units is planned.

Macaluso said demand for hangar space is strong across Georgia and pointed to an aviation study by the Georgia Department of Transportation that documented the need statewide. Falcon Field owns 24 T-hangar units. Most other hangars at the field are privately held on leased airport land.

The new hangars cannot open until a taxiway is connected to the airport, with hangar and taxiway work expected to run at roughly the same time. The development sits on more than 34 acres that recently came under airport ownership, an area that also includes additional facilities for U.S. Aviation Academy.
