Germany's winter seat capacity flat as rest of Europe grows 5%
German air traffic seat capacity will remain unchanged in winter 2026/27 at 117.6 million, while the rest of Europe grows five percent to 115 percent of pre-crisis levels, according to industry association BDL.
Seat capacity in German air traffic will stagnate in the winter 2026/27 season. From September to February, airlines plan to offer a total of 117.6 million seats on flights to, from and within Germany. That represents no growth compared with the same period a year earlier, according to the Bundesverband der Deutschen Luftverkehrswirtschaft (BDL).
Elsewhere in Europe, capacity is set to rise by five percent, reaching 115 percent of 2019/20 levels. The gap is particularly wide for European point-to-point airlines. Outside Germany, they reach 141 percent of pre-crisis levels and hold a 43 percent market share. In Germany, their offer is 55 percentage points lower and their market share is just 28 percent.
