Hurricane Isaias is expected to disrupt air travel along the US Gulf Coast, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The agency said the storm could force the closure of flight routes over the Gulf of Mexico.

Weather-related delays from thunderstorms are possible at Orlando, Tampa, Miami and Fort Lauderdale, the FAA said. Strong winds are forecast for New York's LaGuardia and JFK airports, Newark and Philadelphia.

American Airlines and Delta Air Lines are offering passengers free rebooking on affected connections, according to their travel advisories. The waivers apply to flights on 9 and 10 October.

No further details on the number of cancellations or the scale of the disruption were given.
