IAG rolls out shared fuel-saving platform across five airlines

International Airlines Group is rolling out a common fuel-optimisation system across its carriers, built on the Sky Breathe platform from Open Airlines. Aer Lingus, British Airways, Iberia, Level and Vueling will get the tool, covering more than 600 aircraft, the group said.

Sky Breathe looks at flight plans, weather data and aircraft performance data to find ways to cut fuel consumption.

The airlines already use optimised flight plans, run auxiliary power units less on the ground, and taxi with fewer engines running. Those results were previously recorded in separate systems.

British Airways expects to finish the rollout in the coming months.
