Iranian carriers halt Georgia flights after US sanctions
Three Iranian airlines have ended service to Georgia, with operational restrictions taking effect on 21 September. Georgian authorities said they will fully enforce the US sanctions imposed earlier in the month.
Three Iranian airlines have stopped flying to Georgia, according to a report. Mahan Air, Iran Air and Qeshm Air operated their last flights on the route on 20 September. Restrictions on their operations in the country took effect the next day.
The carriers are among 27 Iranian airlines placed under US sanctions on 8 September, a list attributed to the US Treasury. Georgian authorities have said they intend to implement the measures in full.
Travel between the two countries was already declining. Roughly 29,300 people from Iran visited Georgia in the first half of 2026, down about 49 percent from the same period a year earlier.
