ITA Airways will return to Venezuela under a memorandum of understanding signed with the country's embassy, the airline said. The agreement covers direct commercial service between Caracas and Rome, due to open on 30 March 2027 with three flights a week.

Both sides called the plan a step toward broader air transport links between Europe and the South American country, restoring a connection that existed years ago. Chief executive Joerg Eberhart said the carrier was pleased to re-enter the Venezuelan market and thanked the ambassador and deputy minister for arranging the agreement.

A medium-term growth plan would raise capacity to seven weekly frequencies, one flight a day, from the initial three.

The memorandum sets out the start date, the initial frequency and the intent to expand. No aircraft type, departure times or fares were given.
