Latam Cargo flies 15 rescued big cats from Buenos Aires to Denver
A Latam Cargo charter flight transported eight tigers and seven lions rescued by an animal welfare group from Buenos Aires to Denver, with a technical stop in Santiago de Chile.
Latam Cargo flew 15 rescued big cats, eight tigers and seven lions, from Buenos Aires to Denver on a dedicated charter, the airline said. Four Paws International had rescued the animals, which were being relocated to the Wild Animal Sanctuary in Keenesburg, Colorado.
A Boeing 767 freighter operated the flight, which included a technical stop in Santiago de Chile, according to the airline.
Total cargo weight came to 5.4 tonnes. Of that, 2.5 tonnes were the animals and 2.9 tonnes were their specialized transport crates. Latam Cargo said more than 15 specialists worked for weeks to prepare the operation.
A specialist accompanied the big cats during the flight and monitored them continuously for their welfare, the airline said. No further details on the animals' prior condition or the timeline of their rescue were provided.
