Lufthansa Group said its airlines will operate up to 50 weekly flights to four destinations in Japan in summer 2027, describing the plan as a significant expansion driven by strong passenger demand.

Lufthansa will resume Frankfurt–Nagoya on March 29, 2027, with flights on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. The group calls Nagoya one of Japan's most important industrial and economic centres. A daily Frankfurt–Tokyo Narita service starts March 28, 2027. Daily flights from both Munich and Frankfurt to Tokyo Haneda will continue.

Both new Lufthansa routes will use the Boeing 787-9 in the latest Allegris layout, with 28 business class seats, 28 in premium economy and 231 in economy.

SWISS will also add capacity to Japan in summer 2027, with up to seven weekly Zurich–Tokyo Narita flights. Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and ITA Airways all currently serve Japan, and group carriers also fly to Osaka alongside Tokyo Narita, Tokyo Haneda and Nagoya.

Between September 28 and October 4, 2026, the four carriers operated roughly 39 flights between Europe and Japan, according to the group.

Dieter Vranckx, chief commercial officer of Lufthansa Group, said Japan is a key market and that the additional capacity and the return of Nagoya service strengthen the group's presence there. He said the expanded Tokyo flying gives customers more travel options and supports continued diversification of the group's intercontinental network.
