Lufthansa plans to restart flights between Frankfurt and Nagoya and to open a daily Frankfurt–Tokyo-Narita service for the summer 2027 season. The airline group described the move as a response to rising demand for travel to Japan.

The Nagoya link will run seasonally, three days a week, departing on Mondays, Wednesdays and Saturdays. Its first flight is set for 29 March. The Tokyo-Narita route starts a day earlier, on 28 March, and will operate once a day. These services sit alongside Lufthansa's current daily flights to Tokyo-Haneda from both Frankfurt and Munich.

Both new routes will be flown with Boeing 787-9 aircraft fitted with Allegris cabins. Each jet is configured for 287 passengers, divided into 28 business class seats, 28 premium economy seats and 231 economy seats.

SWISS will add frequency on its Zurich–Tokyo-Narita route, building it up to as many as seven flights per week. Across the group, Lufthansa, Austrian Airlines, SWISS and ITA Airways will together offer service to Tokyo-Haneda, Tokyo-Narita, Osaka and Nagoya, with more connections available via joint venture partner ANA.

Tickets for the new flights are on sale, according to the airline group.
