Lufthansa to restart Bremen–Frankfurt flights in summer 2027

Lufthansa will bring back the Bremen–Frankfurt route with the 2027 summer flight plan, the Bremen senate announced on Friday, 25 September. The airline had said in May it would drop the route from July, citing commercial viability, and the flights did stop.

Bremen politicians and business groups pushed to keep the link. Under the new arrangement Lufthansa will fly the sector once a day, alternating morning and evening departures, and will operate almost four daily flights to Munich.

Bremen–Frankfurt previously ran three to five times a day. Lufthansa commercial chief Stefan Kreuzpaintner said the state's commitment gave the airline the chance to resume the Frankfurt service in summer, reconnecting the city to the international network there.

André Grobien, head of the Bremen chamber of commerce, said Frankfurt matters more than Munich because it is the larger hub, with far more long-haul destinations. He named Buenos Aires, Houston, Hong Kong, Rio de Janeiro, Nairobi, Riyadh, Lagos and Hyderabad as cities served nonstop from Frankfurt but not reachable directly from Munich, calling them important markets for the region's export sector.

Kai Stührenberg, chairman of the airport's supervisory board, was also cited in connection with the decision, which the report links in part to lower airport charges.
