Namibia court orders Air Namibia liquidators to recalculate ex-staff payouts

The Supreme Court of Namibia has told Air Namibia's liquidators to recalculate the claims of 81 former employees. The airline ceased operations in 2021. The payments at issue cover unused leave days, annual bonuses, severance pay, and notice periods. Amounts already paid in December 2022 will be credited against the new calculations.

The court also clarified that only basic salary plus housing and transport allowances may be used to compute severance pay. Employer contributions to medical aid, pension funds, and social security are excluded. A different arrangement made by former Air Namibia management in March 2021 was ruled invalid.
