Newcastle Airport marks first year of international terminal

Newcastle Airport in Australia is marking the first birthday of its international terminal, which opened on September 25, 2025. More than 1.3 million people passed through in the 2026 financial year, and the airport says the expansion has supported stronger connectivity and record passenger numbers.

Chief executive Linc Horton said the terminal gave the Hunter region more direct connections to the rest of Australia and overseas. According to the airport, it has handled its first international passengers, launched direct services to Bali and onward connectivity to Singapore, and announced new domestic routes to Perth and Hobart. The airport described the past financial year as its busiest.

Passengers travelling through the terminal are being given birthday treats to mark the milestone. A trade delegation of 20 people from the Hunter region will travel to Singapore from September 27 to October 2, with international connectivity among the themes of the visit. Representatives from the airport, the Committee for the Hunter, Business Hunter, the University of Newcastle, government, tourism and regional industries are due to take part.
