The airline alliance Oneworld has introduced a check-in function that lets passengers on trips involving several member carriers obtain all boarding passes through one airline's app. The technology is now available for every combination of Oneworld members, according to the alliance.

Travellers can capture their passport in the app, receive a boarding pass for each flight and store them in a digital wallet. This works regardless of which member airline operates the first flight.

One example given is a journey from Kuala Lumpur via Tokyo to Dallas with Malaysia Airlines and American Airlines, where the whole check-in can be completed through the American Airlines app.

The technical basis is a platform developed by Oneworld that enables data exchange between the airlines' systems. Malaysia Airlines was the first user. In later development phases, codeshare trips and dynamically updated boarding passes are also to be supported.
