Orkney Islands Council buys third Britten-Norman Islander for inter-island flights
Orkney Islands Council has purchased a used Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander to improve reliability and capacity on inter-island air services, funded by a £2 million investment package from the Scottish government.
Orkney Islands Council has bought a used Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander for flights between the Scottish Orkney Islands. It will be the third aircraft in the fleet and is meant to improve reliability and capacity on the routes.
The purchase is part of a £2 million (about €2.3 million) investment package paid for with one-off funds from the Scottish government. A landing craft and a roller for the island airfields' runways were also bought.
The future flight schedule with three aircraft is being coordinated with the affected island communities.
