Qantas to launch nonstop Sydney-New York flights in 2028
Qantas plans to begin nonstop service between Sydney and New York in mid-2028 under its Sunrise long-haul project, using specially configured Airbus A350-1000 ULR aircraft.
Qantas will offer nonstop flights between Sydney and New York for the first time from mid-2028. The route is part of the carrier's long-haul Sunrise project, according to the airline's announcement. Travel time on the nonstop service is expected to be more than three hours shorter than current one-stop options.
Tickets are scheduled to go on sale in August 2027. The flights will be operated with specially configured Airbus A350-1000 ULR aircraft seating 238 passengers in four classes. Qantas has ordered twelve of the jets, with the first delivery planned for April 2027.
In October 2027, the airline intends to start nonstop flights between Sydney and London. Sydney-New York is currently served daily with a stop in Auckland.
