Saab unveils first GlobalEye surveillance aircraft for Sweden

Saab has presented the first GlobalEye airborne early warning aircraft for the Swedish armed forces. The aircraft will undergo testing and technical checks before its first flight and delivery.

Saab rolled out the first GlobalEye surveillance aircraft for the Swedish armed forces. The aircraft now enters a phase of testing and technical verification before its maiden flight and delivery, the Swedish defence group said.

GlobalEye is an airborne early warning and control system carrying active and passive sensors. Saab says it can detect and identify targets at long ranges in the air, at sea and on land, passing what it gathers to military units in real time so threats can be recognised early.

Sweden has ordered three of the aircraft. The Swedish defence procurement agency FMV commissioned the first two in 2022 and a third in 2024. Sweden intends the system to expand its airspace surveillance and military situational awareness.
