San Martin Airport to host annual Food Truck Fly-In on October 17

The South County Airport Pilots Association will hold its yearly Food Truck Fly-In at San Martin Airport in California, featuring food trucks, aircraft displays, skydiving and a radio-controlled airshow.

San Martin Airport in California will host its annual Food Truck Fly-In on October 17. The event is run by the South County Airport Pilots Association, a chapter of the California Pilots Association. Entry and parking are free.

The airport, designated E16, sits about 23 miles southeast of San Jose Mineta International Airport and 13 nautical miles northeast of Watsonville Municipal Airport.

A spokesperson for the fly-in, Niki Britton, said 15 food trucks are expected this year. The association's stated aims include building ties with the local community, taking part in any planned growth, improving flight safety and encouraging fellowship among pilots and aviation enthusiasts. Britton said the event serves all of these purposes by drawing pilots, aviation enthusiasts and members of the public to the airport.

Attractions include live music, aircraft demonstrations, static aircraft displays, skydiving, vintage cars and a radio-controlled airshow. Pilots are expected to attend and answer questions about their aircraft and aviation more broadly.

For pilots who have not flown for a while, the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association will hold a Rusty Pilots seminar. That session costs $89 separately.

Activities for children include STEM programming, a jump house, a flight simulator and a scavenger hunt. A tethered hot-air balloon is also planned.

The airport is home to the Wings of History Air Museum, and admission to the museum is free during the fly-in.
