Singapore Airlines and Air India have expanded their commercial partnership with new frequent-flyer benefits and more flight options between Singapore and India. The airlines said the move is part of a commercial cooperation framework agreement signed in January, and both cited strong demand on Singapore-India routes.

From 15 October, passengers on either carrier can book any flight between Singapore and eight Indian cities on a standalone basis. Codeshare flights no longer have to include a flight operated by the other carrier. The airlines said this gives customers more flight options and a simpler booking process.

The eight Indian points covered are Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Kochi, Kolkata and Mumbai. Frequent-flyer members on both airlines will also get enhanced reciprocal benefits on Singapore-India flights, building on reciprocal mileage accrual arrangements announced earlier.

Both operators said they are working on further initiatives, including better schedule connectivity to cut layover and waiting times, added offerings for corporate customers, and other measures to streamline travel.

Singapore Airlines holds a 25.1% stake in Air India, making it the second largest shareholder after parent Tata Group. The two already share a codeshare partnership covering 77 points across 27 countries and territories.

Air India commercial chief Nipun Argawal said the two airlines aim to bring greater consistency to the travel experience of their common customers between India and Singapore, along with more choice, convenience and value.
