Smartphone Slips Through Cabin Floor, Forces Azul Flight Cancellation

An Azul Linhas Aéreas flight was cancelled on 2 September after a passenger's smartphone fell through an opening in the cabin floor and became lodged in the aircraft structure. Flight AD4927, from Ponta Porã in Mato Grosso do Sul to Campinas near São Paulo, was operated by an Embraer E195-E2 registered PS-ADE.

Brazilian media reported that the phone did not simply fall under a seat. It slipped through an unspecified opening into the structure of the plane. Whether the device reached the cargo hold or remained stuck within the cabin floor was not clear. A technician had to be flown in from São Paulo to retrieve the phone.

Similar incidents have happened on United Airlines Boeing 767s, where passengers' laptops fell through gaps between business-class seats and the cabin wall and ended up in the cargo hold. In October 2025, a flight turned around after one such event. A similar incident occurred again in January 2026. The airline later explained that a foam strip had been used as a shelf and a divider grid shifted.
