Southwest Airlines is overhauling its Rapid Rewards frequent-flyer programme. From January 2027, the A-List and A-List Preferred tiers become Silver and Gold, with a new Platinum tier above them. According to the airline, Platinum will include unlimited travel with the Companion Pass and rewards granted before a member reaches the next status level.

From spring 2027, members can earn and redeem points with Icelandair, China Airlines and Etihad Airways. Paying for seat reservations with points will follow later.

Southwest also plans to open its own lounges, Southwest Icon Lounge, towards the end of 2027, with access offered through a new premium credit card from Chase. The carrier intends to equip its entire fleet with Starlink satellite internet by autumn 2027, and internet access will stay free for Rapid Rewards members.
