Swarm Aero unveils Gamera, a low-cost large military drone
Swarm Aero has presented Gamera, a large uncrewed aircraft it says can be built cheaply and in high numbers. The company claims comparable strike effect at a tenth of previous costs.
Swarm Aero has unveiled Gamera, a large military drone it says can be built cheaply and in high numbers. The uncrewed aircraft has a wingspan of about 22 metres and can carry more than 1,270 kilograms of payload. Its range is designed to be roughly 16,700 kilometres.
According to the manufacturer, Gamera is meant to carry heavy weapons, among them the LRASM and JASSM-ER cruise missiles and other cruise and hypersonic missiles. It is also intended to take on capabilities of the MQ-9 Reaper.
No price has been named. Swarm Aero claims it can offer comparable strike effect at a tenth of previous costs. The concept is aimed in part at the US Air Force's new Massed Modular Aircraft programme.
