The missing seat on the Airbus A380 that hides a crew escape hatch

On Qantas Airbus A380s, seat 70D does not exist. The floor space in its place conceals an escape hatch required by European regulators for the aircraft's crew rest module.

Airbus A380

On the Qantas Airbus A380, row 70 has no aisle seat. Seat 70D does not exist. The seat map shows the row, and the window and middle seats are in place, but the aisle seat is absent, replaced by a section of floor finished to match the surrounding carpet.

The gap is deliberate. An escape hatch for the crew rest module sits beneath the floor. It was installed because European regulators required it before Airbus could certify that module.
