Two rescued after ultralight sea landing in Black Sea
Two Belgian pilots were rescued after their Aerospool WT-9 Dynamic ultralight made an emergency water landing in the Black Sea on Wednesday following an engine failure.
Two Belgian men were rescued on Wednesday after their ultralight aircraft made an emergency water landing in the Black Sea. The Aerospool WT-9 Dynamic was flying from Batumi, Georgia, to Ordu-Giresun, Turkey, when the engine failed, according to the occupants. A planned emergency landing at Rize-Artvin Airport could not be completed.
The aircraft went down about 6.4 kilometers off the Turkish coast near Pazar. The coast guard rescued the two men, aged 55 and 69. They were conscious when pulled from the plane, then taken to hospital for examination and are not in life-threatening condition.
The cause of the reported engine failure is under investigation.
