Ukraine says it struck Russian airfield used by An-124 and Il-76 transports

Ukrainian forces hit the Seshcha military airfield in Russia's Bryansk region, according to a statement from Ukraine's General Staff, which said damage assessment was ongoing.

Ukrainian forces attacked the Seshcha military airfield in Russia's Bryansk region, Ukraine's General Staff said in a statement posted to Telegram on October 7, 2026. The statement said the extent of the damage was still being assessed and did not identify the weapons used or specify what was struck at the site.

Seshcha hosts the Russian Aerospace Forces' 566th Military Transport Aviation Regiment, which flies An-124-100 Ruslan heavy transports. Il-76 transports have also been based there. Satellite images released in 2022 showed An-124s and Il-76s at the airfield alongside fighter aircraft and helicopters. The airfield has previously been identified as a launch site for Shahed-type strike drones.

The General Staff said the airfield was among several targets hit inside Russia and in occupied parts of Ukraine on October 6 and overnight into October 7. In the same period, Russia carried out a large missile and drone attack on Ukraine; during that attack, Swedish Gripen fighters supported Polish air defence operations.

Also in Bryansk region, Ukrainian forces said they struck an electronic warfare station near Hrynovo and a radar station near Elionka.
