United Airlines is replacing the ten Boeing 737s based at Guam International Airport with newer 737 MAX 8s, according to the carrier.

The Guam operation is unlike the rest of United's network. From the island, the airline flies 737s across long stretches of the Pacific, linking communities separated by large distances over water, where the nearest alternative transport can be hundreds of miles away.

On the incoming MAX 8s, the most distinctive item is not the bigger cabin screens or quicker WiFi. It is a single row of economy seats that folds away to make room for a stretcher used in medical evacuations.
