United weighs Polaris lounge expansion as larger 787-9 cabins arrive
United Airlines is assessing whether its Polaris lounges can absorb more premium passengers as it takes delivery of Boeing 787-9s with bigger business-class cabins, with Los Angeles and Chicago O'Hare seen as the leading candidates for expansion.
United Airlines is weighing a capacity problem with its premium international cabin. As it takes delivery of Boeing 787-9s fitted with a substantially larger business-class cabin, the carrier expects more Polaris passengers than some of its airport lounges can comfortably handle.
United has confirmed it is evaluating expansion in two markets. Los Angeles International Airport and Chicago O'Hare International Airport are the leading candidates.
The airline is due to receive 66 of the 787-9s. No timeline for a decision on the lounge work was given.
