Volotea is considering temporarily closing its bases in Palermo and Naples from autumn 2026 to summer 2027, according to Italian union Uiltrasporti.

Volotea is assessing whether to temporarily close its bases in Palermo and Naples from autumn 2026 until summer 2027. Italian union Uiltrasporti reported the plan after a meeting with the airline and the labour ministry. State wage support is being looked at for affected employees. The union has asked for details on how many workers are involved and for options to transfer staff to Florence, Verona and Ancona. It is also seeking higher compensation for voluntary moves. Talks will resume on 29 September. No final decision on the closures has been made.
