Volotea to shrink fleet to 30-35 aircraft under restructuring
The Spanish carrier plans to cut its fleet from 44 aircraft to between 30 and 35 as it restructures long-term debt with SEPI and other creditors, aiming for an agreement by December.
Volotea intends to shrink its fleet under a financial restructuring, the airline said. The Spanish carrier flies 44 aircraft today and plans to operate between 30 and 35 in future, mostly Airbus A320s.
It is negotiating a restructuring of its long-term debt with SEPI, the state holding company, and other creditors, and aims for an agreement by December. Volotea is also preparing a capital increase. Its size has not been disclosed.
The airline attributes part of its financial strain to sharply higher fuel costs, which it puts at around 150 million euros in additional impact. Flight operations and ticket sales continue unchanged.
