Western Sydney International airport set to open at Badgerys Creek
Australia's first major greenfield airport in over 50 years is due to open this month, with carriers seeking access to its round-the-clock operating capacity.

Western Sydney International (Nancy-Bird Walton) Airport is due to open this month at Badgerys Creek, about 50 kilometers west of Sydney's central business district. It is Australia's first major greenfield airport in more than half a century.
Criticism has focused on the remote location, and the project has been compared to mega-airport schemes such as Montréal–Mirabel that did not meet expectations.
Airlines are still competing for access ahead of the first commercial departure. The draw is the site's unrestricted 24-hour operations, described as its most valuable asset. The project is reported to cost $14 billion, and it is already influencing airline planning before any passenger service begins.
