Accident Overview
On 14 August 2005, a Boeing 737-31S aircraft (registration 5B-DBY) operated by Helios Airways as flight HCY522 crashed in the area of Grammatiko, Attikis, 33 kilometers northwest of Athens International Airport. The accident investigation was conducted by the Hellenic Republic's Air Accident Investigation and Aviation Safety Board (AAIASB).
Investigation
The investigation was carried out in accordance with Annex 13 to the Chicago Convention, Hellenic Law 2912/2001, and EU Directive 94/56. The sole objective was the prevention of similar accidents. The board was chaired by Captain Akrivos D. Tsolakis, with members A. Katsifas, G. Kassavetis, K. Alexopoulos, and G. Georgas, and secretary J. Papadopoulos.
