Accident Description
The aircraft was flying uphill at low altitude when it struck the tops of four trees. After striking the trees, the aircraft impacted the ground approximately 40 yards away in an inverted position. At the time of impact, the engine was producing power and the aircraft's airspeed was low.
Terrain and Conditions
The crash site was located at an elevation of about 6000 feet MSL. The terrain in the direction of flight rose to approximately 7000 feet MSL. The canyon at that point was described as very narrow with a steep incline forward and on both sides.
Aircraft Examination
During post-accident examination, the right wing flap was found in an almost fully extended (down) position.
