Incident Details
American Airlines Flight 57 departed Baltimore for Chicago O'Hare International Airport. During the final approach, the flight crew discovered that the nose landing gear would not extend. The flight engineer made three separate attempts to manually crank the gear into the down position, but all were unsuccessful.
Evacuation
The aircraft landed with the nose gear retracted. All 121 occupants evacuated the aircraft via emergency slides. No injuries were reported during the evacuation.
Post-Landing Inspection
After the aircraft was jacked up by ground crew, a ground crew member entered the aircraft and successfully cranked the nose gear to the down position with no difficulty.
