What happened
On the early morning of the incident, a cargo flight, identified as KRE141, departed from Runway 05 at Barranquilla-Ernesto Cortissoz Airport at 02:27LT, destined for Bogotá. Approximately 15 minutes after takeoff, while cruising at 15,000 feet, the crew notified air traffic control regarding technical difficulties involving the landing gear. In response to this issue, the crew performed a 180-degree turn.
The aircraft conducted several flight circuits to the southwest of the airport. During this process, the crew executed a low-altitude pass over the runway at an elevation of roughly 250 feet. Following this maneuver, the aircraft began a climb and a left-hand turn before proceeding south. The aircraft arrived at the runway and touched down at 03:40LT.
Upon landing on Runway 05, the left main landing gear failed. This structural failure caused the left wing of the aircraft to make contact with the runway surface. The aircraft subsequently slid for several hundred meters before coming to a complete stop at 03:41LT. There were no injuries reported among the occupants.
Findings
- The primary factor in the accident was the collapse of the left main landing gear during the landing roll.
