Incident Overview
Approximately 10 minutes before arrival, an aircraft suddenly encountered turbulence while descending through 10,000 feet. One occupant described the event as a single tremendous jolt. The aircraft was about 39 miles east of Anchorage International Airport at the time of the mishap. The seat belt sign was illuminated, and flight attendants were preparing the cabin for landing.
At the time of the turbulence encounter, a SIGMET was in effect, warning of possible turbulence in the area.
Injuries
As a result of the turbulence, one passenger and one flight attendant sustained serious injuries. Additionally, three other flight attendants and three passengers received minor injuries.
