Accident Details
During an instructional flight in the traffic pattern, a certified flight instructor (CFI) chose to demonstrate a short field landing followed by a short field takeoff. The student pilot reported that after lift-off on the short field takeoff, the CFI flew the aircraft to a nose-high attitude, similar to what would be used for power-on stalls. The student questioned this maneuver. Shortly thereafter, the stall warning horn sounded and the aircraft stalled from approximately 100 feet above ground level (AGL). The aircraft struck the ground before the CFI could recover. A fire started in the engine compartment after the aircraft came to rest.
Injuries
The CFI was seriously injured during the impact and was unconscious after the accident. The student pilot sustained only minor injuries and pulled the CFI from the aircraft.
Toxicology
A test of the CFI's blood, taken about four hours after the accident, showed an alcohol level of 0.11% (0.11 grams percent).
