What happened
The incident occurred while the aircraft was conducting an overwater flight. During this phase of operations, the pilot observed a partial loss of manifold pressure accompanied by a corresponding reduction in engine power.
Upon detecting these anomalies, the pilot initiated emergency procedures designed to restore normal engine operation. Despite these efforts, the pilot was unable to regain sufficient power or maintain the aircraft's altitude. Consequently, the airplane was ditched at sea. The aircraft was not recovered from the water. The pilot was subsequently rescued by the United States Coast Guard.
