Incident Overview
A student pilot was advised by his flight instructor that a cross-country flight was not authorized due to adverse weather conditions. However, the student was permitted to rent the aircraft under the condition that another flight instructor accompany him. The flight departed, but no flight instructor was aboard.
Flight and Engine Failure
During cruise flight, the engine quit due to fuel exhaustion. The student pilot subsequently landed the aircraft on a road. During the landing, the right wing collided with a road sign.
Logbook and Endorsements
It could not be determined whether the departure airport prior to the accident was the first airport at which the student landed. The student pilot's logbook was not endorsed by an instructor with the flight school indicating that the flight planning was reviewed.
