Flight Event
Approximately half an hour before arriving in the destination area during a cross-country flight, the pilot observed a momentary fluctuation of the fuel pressure gauge. The reading subsequently stabilized and remained normal until the approach phase.
Engine Failure and Landing
While on final approach for landing, the fuel pressure dropped to zero and the engine ceased operating. The pilot executed emergency procedures in an attempt to restart the engine, but these were unsuccessful. The airplane then descended into a residential area, where it struck a utility pole before coming to rest against a garage.
Post-Accident Findings
Upon arrival of fire personnel, the right wing fuel tank was found ruptured and contained approximately one gallon of fuel. The left wing fuel tank contained about 15 gallons of fuel. After the aircraft was retrieved, the engine was started and ran normally without the use of the fuel boost pump.
