Accident Summary
A ground collision occurred between two aircraft at an airport involving N60HB and N11498. The incident took place at the intersection of runways 14 and 17L after air traffic control instructions were issued to both aircraft. Sequence of Events
N60HB had landed on runway 14 and was instructed to hold short of runway 17L on taxiway Kilo. Meanwhile, N11498 was cleared to land on runway 17L and was directed to turn left onto taxiway Kilo and contact ground control. The pilot of N11498 reported that after exiting the runway, he stopped while attempting to contact ground control. Subsequently, N60HB was instructed to cross runway 17L and to monitor ground control frequency. N60HB began crossing the runway, but before reaching the hold short line on the east side of the runway, the propeller of N60HB struck the elevator of N11498.
Pilot Statements
The pilot of N60HB stated that while crossing runway 17L, she initiated an S-turn maneuver and then noticed N11498. Despite her efforts, she was unable to avoid the collision. She further noted that there is a crest in the middle of runway 17L that may have obstructed her view. Additionally, she mentioned that she never heard any mention of the Mooney aircraft (N11498) on either the tower or ground control frequencies during the sequence.
