What happened
The incident occurred during the initial climb phase of flight. Approximately 20 feet above the ground, the engine suffered a sudden loss of power. Facing an imminent emergency, the pilot executed a forced landing attempt directed toward the end of the runway.
During the landing roll, the aircraft failed to stop within the paved surface. It overran the runway threshold, crossed an adjacent road, and penetrated a perimeter fence before ultimately striking a tree. The force of the impact brought the aircraft to a halt.
The investigation
Following the accident, an FAA inspector conducted a thorough examination of the airplane to determine the mechanical status of the engine. The inspection aimed to identify any obvious mechanical failures or anomalies that could have caused the power loss.
The inspector found no physical defects or irregularities in the engine or related systems that would have prevented normal operation. This finding suggests that the failure was not due to a pre-existing mechanical fault detectable by visual or standard inspection methods.
