Incident Overview
A Cessna and a Britten-Norman aircraft experienced a wing tip contact during approach at an unspecified airport. Both pilots had reported their positions on the Unicom frequency and announced their intentions.
Sequence of Events
The Cessna pilot stated that he entered the traffic pattern on the downwind leg at 1,000 feet, then turned base to final. The Britten-Norman pilot reported turning left from base leg to final approach but did not mention a downwind leg. At 500 feet, the wing tips of both aircraft made contact. The Cessna sustained damage to its right wing, while the Britten-Norman's left wing was damaged.
After the contact, the Britten-Norman pilot continued the approach and landed on runway 9 without further incident. The Cessna pilot initiated a go-around, executed another approach, and also landed on runway 9 without further incident.
