The Incident
A student pilot was conducting his second supervised solo flight under the observation of a flight instructor. During the first landing attempt, the airplane impacted the runway hard and subsequently porpoised. The instructor and student both observed the event.
Examination
After the landing, an inspection of the airplane revealed that the floorboard and firewall had buckled as a result of the hard impact. No other damage was noted.
Statements
Both the flight instructor and the student stated that prior to the accident, there were no mechanical failures or malfunctions of the airplane or any of its systems. The cause of the hard landing was not attributed to any technical issue.
