Incident Overview
A private airplane sustained substantial damage after it overran the end of a runway at a private airstrip and the left main landing gear collapsed. The incident occurred during an aborted takeoff.
Pilot's Account
According to the pilot, while the airplane was halfway down the runway, a sudden loss of engine power occurred. The pilot decided to abort the takeoff, engaged full reverse thrust, and applied the brakes. The airplane continued beyond the end of the runway, where the left main gear became caught in soft dirt and subsequently collapsed.
Post-Accident Findings
Following the accident, the pilot reported that water was found in the fuel system.
