Accident Overview
During landing practice at their home airport, a student pilot with 35 hours of solo flight experience experienced a hard landing. The subsequent failure of the nose landing gear resulted in substantial damage to the aircraft. The pilot reported the landing to a Federal Aviation Administration inspector as a "text book landing."
Pilot Report
The student pilot stated that the landing was executed normally. However, an inspection of the aircraft revealed significant damage. The nose landing gear and firewall sustained substantial structural damage. Additionally, scrape marks were observed on the right stabilator and the tail skid.
Aircraft Damage
The damage assessment confirmed that the nose landing gear assembly was compromised, and the firewall was deformed. Scrape marks on the right stabilator and tail skid indicate contact with the runway surface. Despite multiple attempts by the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB), the pilot did not submit an NTSB Form 6120 accident report.
