What happened
On February 27, 2008, at 09:48 Chilean standard time, a Cessna 210M, registered as CC-KKU, was involved in a fatal accident in Santiago, Chile. The aircraft, operated by Club Aereo de Personal de Carabineros, was conducting a local instructional flight originating from Eulogio Sanchez (Tobalaba) Airport (SCTB).
After departing the airport toward the southeast, the aircraft attempted a left turn back toward the airport approximately one minute later. During this maneuver, the airplane was unable to maintain its altitude and performed a forced landing into the Penalolen Municipal Stadium, located in the southeast quadrant of Santiago. At the time of the impact, the stadium was being used for organized aerobics classes.
The collision resulted in 6 fatal injuries onboard the aircraft, involving two pilots and four passengers. The impact also caused 5 fatalities among people on the ground, while more than 20 individuals on the ground sustained serious injuries. Following the impact, the aircraft burst into flames. The flight was conducted under visual meteorological conditions (VMC), and no flight plan had been filed.
