Accident

On March 2, 2008, at approximately 1320 universal time coordinated, a Robinson R-44 II helicopter with Russian registration RA-04223 was destroyed when it collided with trees and terrain near Nizhnevartovsk, Russia. The pilot and the single passenger sustained fatal injuries. The flight was conducted under Russian flight regulations.

Discovery and Wreckage Examination

According to preliminary information from the Russian government, the wreckage was not located until July 2008, several months after the accident. Initial examination of the wreckage indicated that the helicopter struck a swampy forest area in a nose-down, right-roll attitude.
