What happened
On December 16, 2009, at 07:20 eastern standard time, a Robinson R-44, registered as C-GDSF, was operating near Montreal, Canada, to provide highway traffic information to a local television station. During the flight, the pilot notified air traffic control of an intention to perform an emergency landing at the Mel Studio helipad.
While attempting the landing, the helicopter struck the ground at a high rate of descent approximately 800 feet short of the intended helipad near the Bonaventure Highway. The accident resulted in 2 serious injuries and no fatalities. The aircraft sustained substantial damage.
