Accident Details
A training flight involving a student pilot and a flight instructor ended with structural damage after a go-around maneuver resulted in a wing tip striking the ground.
Sequence of Events
The student pilot reported that during the landing, the airplane bounced twice. He then elected to abort the landing and applied full engine power. The flight instructor noted that when full power was restored, insufficient rudder was applied, causing the airplane to drift left of the runway. Taking control, the flight instructor initiated a left bank in an attempt to avoid hitting the airport windsock. During the bank, the left wing tip impacted the ground, followed by the airplane's fuselage.
Damage
The airplane's fuselage and both wings sustained structural damage during the accident.
Mechanical Status
No mechanical failure or malfunction was reported with the airplane's flight controls or engine.
