2008 Sport Cruiser Crash in Newark, Illinois (N602CF)

Accident Overview and Flight History On July 21, 2008, a Czech Aircraft Works Sport Cruiser, registration N602CF, crashed into terrain near Cushing Field (0C8) in Newark, Illinois. The aircraft, a Special Light Sport Aircraft (S-LSA) operated as a rental by Sport Pilot Chicago, sustained substantial damage. The 77-year-old sport pilot was fatally injured. The flight departed at approximately 1030 CDT for a local personal flight under 14 CFR Part 91. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed. An airport employee witnessed the takeoff from runway 36 but did not track the aircraft further. The wreckage was later found in a bean field within the airport's traffic pattern area, approximately 1.16 miles from the field. Hobbs meter readings indicated the aircraft had flown 0.2 hours since departure.
