What happened
On July 28, 2008, a Cessna T188C, registration N3419J, was performing an aerial application maneuver near Marion, Iowa. During the maneuver, the pilot encountered a strong gust of wind which caused the aircraft to stall. The pilot was unable to fly into ground effect to recover sufficient airspeed and lift. The aircraft subsequently impacted a fence row ditch. There were no injuries resulting from the accident.
The investigation
The pilot reported that no mechanical malfunctions occurred on the aircraft during the flight. The weather conditions at the time of the accident were Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC).
